Creative and Cultural Practice Level 3

The Certificate in Creative and Cultural Practice is intended to assess knowledge and understanding for the creative and cultural sectors and is designed to form part of the Creative Apprenticeship, whilst complimenting the National Awards.

Individuals looking to work in the industry will be able to attain this qualification proving a certain level of knowledge and understating prior to actually gaining any work experience. Employers can use this qualification as an indication of the ability for the future employees. Part, or all of the Certificate in Creative and Cultural Practice can be used in the organisations' induction process for new and nearly new employees and together with additional practical training will contribute toward the achievement of the Creative Apprenticeship.

Level 2 Certificate in Creative and Cultural Practice comprises of 4 units, all of which are mandatory. To gain the Certificate learners must successfully complete learning requirements and assessments for the following:

Unit 1 Understanding the creative cultural industries

Element – Learning outcomes

  • 1.1 Know how to use research to develop and express views and opinions about different aspects of the creative and cultural sectors
  • 1.2 Understand the cultural, economics, political and social factors which affect the way people work and produce in the creative and cultural sectors.
  • 1.3 Understand the issues and legislation relating to diversity and equality in the creative and cultural industries
  • 1.4 Understand how new and emerging technologies impact on the development, distribution and receipt of creative and cultural products

Unit 2 Working in the creative cultural sectors

Element - Learning outcomes

  • 2.1 Know how to be inventive and flexible in adapting new ideas and exploring alternative solutions.
  • 2.2 Understand the need to communicate effectively in different ways and for different types of audiences
  • 2.3 Know how to carry out primary and secondary research
  • 2.4 Know how to critically analyse own and others’ work and receive and respond to feedback and criticism
  • 2.5 Understand the importance of questioning and challenging own and others’ assumptions

Unit 3 Understanding how to develop creative and cultural ideas

Element - Learning outcomes

  • 3.1 Understand the processes which support the development of creative and cultural ideas and products
  • 3.2 Know how to use materials, techniques and technologies in creative and imaginative ways
  • 3.3 Know the legal, ethical and environmental issues and constraints affecting the creative and cultural development process

Unit 4 Understanding creative cultural businesses

Element - Learning outcomes

  • 4.1 Know how to manage a project, working within time and financial constraints
  • 4.2 Know how to respond effectively to a brief or commission
  • 4.3 Know the office skills required within a creative and cultural business and how to use these effectively
  • 4.4 Understand how enterprises and entrepreneurship relate to the creative and cultural industries
  • 4.5 Understand the importance of writing clear and concise bids to raise additional funds.
